ABS
ABS
(Acrylonitrile Butadien Styrene) has a high impact resistance and an excellent
resistance to extreme environmental conditions. It is suitable for use at
low temperatures (-40 °C).
Approvals
Water Byelaws Scheme: Approved Product for hot and cold water. The material
meets the requirements of testing of non-metallic materials for use with potable
(drinking) water. Water Byelaws Scheme /WRc tests of effect on water quality
(based on BS6920). George Fischer ABS fittings and pipe are Water Byelaws
Scheme approved for the above ground use with cold water. listing reference

- Robust
- Transmission of solid bodies is a typical application for ABS where its
abrasive resistance and robustness come to the fore.
- Low temperatures
- Temperatures as low as -40 °C present no problem for ABS. Thus use with
low temperature fluids and refrigerants is an ideal application for ABS.
- Low Thermal
Conductivity
- ABS has a thermal conductivity 2000 times lower than copper. The need
for insulation can often be totally eliminated and your whole systems efficiency
can be radically improved.
- Excellent
Impact Resistance
- ABS lends itself to applications where accidental damage can be imagined.
e.g. open site applications or where blockages could occur in the system.
These can easily be relieved with use of hammer without damaging the system.
The crack propagation resistance of ABS is exceptional in comparison with
other thermoplastics.
- Reduced
Maintenance Costs
- Lack of corrosion and the cleanliness of ABS will reduce your maintenance
costs to a minimum.
- Quick Installation
- Joints are made using a special cement, no investment is required and
only the minimum of training is necessary. The material is very light and
easy to handle which also helps speed up installation.
- Ductile
- Although durable and tough, ABS is ductile and ideal for applications
where the system foundations may move. e.g. underground or where moving
parts are involved.
- Non Toxic
and Neutral
- ABS contains no added additives and imparts no taste, metals or additives
to the medium.
