Bulk chemical mixing plant at Southampton Docks

Project overview –Precision Pipework were called to site to design and install suitable equipment to allow Ammonium Nitrate to be mixed and heated to produce a bulk liquid fertilizer. The project included the transfer of the hot product over 200m to a tank storage facility. After the product has cooled and settled it can be transferred into road tankers ready for delivery to surrounding farms.

The tanks were equipped with audio / visual alarms to warn of impending overfill situations. Each tank was fitted with a fail safe air actuated valve which could be remotely switched to prevent the need for operators entering the bunded tank area. The installation took less than 3 months from start to fertilizer production.

Mixer tank

Design , supplied , installed and tested the following:

• One mixing pump rated at 37Kw pumping approx 80m3/hr
• One 6” in-line filter
• One water supply pipe including electronic batch controller and actuated ball valve
• One lot 4” boiler flow and return pipework including pump and valves.
• One boiler pressurization system
• One Power distribution system and controls

• Design, supply, installation and tested the following:
• Five ultrasonic level controllers.
• One pneumatic valve control station with alarms.
• One transfer pump with valves and pipework.
• One GRP kiosk complete with power distribution systems and controls.
